beintween, as a social + spatial network, was inspired by the investigation and site observation of the media garden at the east end of the marsupial bridge. the area across from trocadero is a space of many faces, and a super place for improvisation.
last fall, beintween installed a series of swings to take advantage of the structure, much in the same way the marsupial bridge does. with discarded tires, rope and chain donations (thanks to Home Depot), and several pair of hands, we created a pop up park of swings.
after the addition of some additional swing types, and the maintenance of those that were originally installed, alderman kovac and the brady steet BID agreed to accept our park as a donation to the city of milwaukee.
last week, the space was dedicated the marsupial matireal garden, in honor of beintween's reuse of a matireal that will become the catalyst to our next urban intervention, namely the artery.
yesterday, fellow beintweeners jacob bruni and willie fields replaced the largest and most used community bench swing with a very heavy duty treated lumber version, and added a baby swing to the park as well. here are a few images:
